Prairie Wheat

Why is this fear coming out of your eyes
Like prairie wheat burning
As it’s embers fade to charcoal
But you still light the fires of others
And bring flames to beds
On your reserves
Surviving weighted restlessness
Eyes from almond
To diamond
Living through all the crimes
Saying
“You are not an enemy
At least to yourself
Or to me
So set your spirit free.”
Then you strip down
To your skivvies
And extinguish
What is left of
Your flames
In the murky waters
Of being
A being
Not lost
To recollection
